About Course

The study of social and economic inequality is one of the cornerstones of entrepreneurship.

This course is dedicated to an in-depth study of economic inequality globally. The course include normative and positive reasons for caring about inequality, the relationship between economic growth and inequality, measurement and axes of inequality, global inequalities of gender and race. We will also study policy solutions that have emerged in response to inequality, and the political implications of inequality.

The age-old conundrum. The rich vs poor narrative is a complex and multifaceted issue that has been debated by economists, sociologists, and philosophers for centuries. Here are some key points to consider:
Income inequality:
  • The wealth gap between the rich and poor has been increasing in many countries, with a small percentage of the population holding a significant portion of the wealth.
  • This can lead to reduced economic mobility, social unrest, and political polarization.
Economic systems:
  • Capitalism: Emphasizes individual wealth creation and can lead to significant income disparities.
  • Socialism: Aims to reduce economic inequality through redistribution of wealth and social welfare programs.
Social and political implications:
  • Poverty can lead to limited access to education, healthcare, and social opportunities.
  • Wealth can provide privilege, influence, and political power.
Potential solutions:
  • Progressive taxation
  • Social safety nets
  • Education and job training programs
  • Encouraging corporate social responsibility
